Love Myself Series: How I make it through the tough day to day Stuff

This month is the month of love. And while others are dedicating their topics to date night and pink polish, we at Be My Intention are focusing on falling in love with ourselves. If you want to check out the more from this series hop on over to this page.

There are certain things that are just challenging to deal with. Obviously there are the big things, but that’s not really what I’m talking about here.

What I’m talking about are the day to day struggles. The ones where you have to bite your tongue, stand up taller, or maybe make some one else a little upset. It can be hard when as an adult you have to stand up to your parents. It can be a struggle to vacuum when you have a million other things on your to do list. It’s sometimes a challenge to not get snippy at the rude woman in the Starbucks line.

These are the day to day struggles. And they can take a bit of a toll on me. If I have too many of them happen, or if I respond to them less than gracefully, then they can begin to weigh on my confidence.

I personally start struggling when I’m not sure the “appropriate” way to handle a situation. I start wondering if it was okay that I acted that way, or how someone else would hav handled it. And I, of course, always wonder how the other person feels about the way I acted towards them… (I’m telling you, ultimate case of the people pleasers over here.)

how i make it through the tough stuffSo, I do something little for myself that has been helping out. I write myself permission slips.

Yeah, fifth grade style permission slips.

I literally grab a piece of paper and write something like

I give myself permission to let the house be messy and unmanaged so I may put my focus on my blog.

I give myself permission to tell the truth about how I am feeling.

I give myself permission to be offended when I am talked down to, and to let the person know that I don’t appreciate being treated that way.

I give myself permission to spend money on a vacation.

This certainly doesn’t actually change the things that are happening around you, but what it does is changes the vibration of the action or activity in your mind. It sets you free.

We are so often our worst advocates. We question ourselves, we judge our every moves, and we rarely give the benefit of the doubt. I need some freedom sometimes, how bout you?

So I have found my little piece of freedom on a little piece of paper. I don’t have to do everything, and thats okay. I don’t always have to respond the way someone thinks I should respond, and thats okay.

I challenge you to write yourself a permission slip today. Give yourself some freedom. You deserve it.

With Love.
