Style: Working on a winter wardrobe.

The chill is here. Which means it’s unfortunately time to make an early switch to my winter wardrobe. And I JUST perfected my fall capsule. I guess that’s what I get for getting a late start on this whole capsule wardrobe concept.

But with the weather getting chillier by the second I am getting excited to eliminate a few things from the wardrobe and even more excited to start adding new things! Here is what my capsule will be looking like this season:

I loved my fall capsule. Like, a ton. So it won’t really be changing too much. My style concept will most certainly stay the same, consisting of Grunge/ Classic/ Chic pieces. This style description has been capturing me perfectly so why mess with a good thing?

Something that WILL be changing is my number. I think this will take a few seasons for me to get perfect, but I am definitely needing to switch up some things. I enjoy the idea of minimizing but don’t love the idea of boredom… and let’s be honest, winter clothing SCREAMS boredom. When it’s freezing outside all you want are layers. Which generally means pants, a tank or tee, covered with an outer shell, and a jacket, AND a coat, probably a scarf, and boots. More boots. Boots and scarves EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Ya catchin my drift? I hate dressing for winter. The first five days are great, because they’re different, but after that I just want to go straight to spring and skip over ever having to wear another scarf or boot again.

All this to say: I need some excitement in my life. And that is certainly not going to happen if I feel like I’m wearing the exact same cardigan every day.

Another thing I know about myself and winter… I don’t typically do the whole dresses with leggings thing. I think it’s cute and seems like such a great way to get out of the boredom, but it’s just not my fave to actually wear. So, that being said, I’m gonna cut out some dresses and skirts and use my number more practically.

So the number will be going a little bit like this (I believe.)

  • 3 pairs of jeans
  • 3 pairs of pants
  • 3 dresses
  • 1 skirt
  • 4 tanks
  • 4 short sleeve shirts
  • 9 long sleeves
  • 9 outer shells

36 will be my number to try out this season. Maybe with a little more practice I can get down to a more admirable number, but for now I am comfortable with my happy 36. It feels right (even if it doesn’t include my winter coats and shoes. Is that considered cheating?? …Oh well, it works for me and that’s what matters, right?)

After establishing my new numbers (and since I hadn’t quite filled up my fall capsule) I will definitely need to do some shopping. Good thing Black Friday is just around the corner! I am needing to pick up some pretty crucial items. 2 pairs of pants, one dress, 3 long sleeved shirts, and 4 outer shells. And although I don’t include it in my capsule, I am on the hunt for a gorgeous long wrap coat. I’m thinking this one {click here to check it out.} I am completely looking forward to these additions, especially a fun new pair of statement pants. Anyone know where I can find something bold and funky?

Am I the only one who feels like they need more clothes in the winter just to stay warm? What do you do to keep yourself from wearing the same general uniform every day in the winter, without freezing your tush off? If you have any ideas to keep me from boredom please share in the comments below! I could use any advice you have to offer!

With Love.

How exciting! I love a good planning session for the next season! I for sure like having more options so you can layer a lot in the UK it isn’t really cold enough yet to worry but I have definetly been thinking a lot about making snow plans! which for me is when I want to wear everything I own, all in one outfit! I can’t wait to see what you buy!

and 36, that’s a hugely admirable number! I stuck with 40 and may go over on my winter one so I think you’re doing great! Can’t wait to read more! Jess x

Oh man thanks Jess!! That’s making me feel a little better about my seemingly abundant amount of clothes I’m going to have. (Funny, considering I used to have 60x that amount…)
We just got our first snow yesterday so it’s getting quite cold around here.
I know you’re in the uk but happy thanksgiving my dear blog pal 🙂 I hope you take a chance today to remember all of your blessing, big and small!
